String Making

Transplanting Disobedience contains a collection of objects, artworks and ideas. Each of these elements has a story to tell about environmental activism in Bunbury and the South West.

The elements on display are connected together in an ecosystem of ideas, ideals, thoughts and aspirations. On strips of old bed sheets, we write or draw our environmental concerns, changes we want to see or make and our dreams and hopes for our environment and community. These strips are turned into string which physically connects the elements on display in the exhibition like the invisible stuff that holds together a community or an ecosystem.

On our first meeting we began to make string as a group while discussing our ideas for the project.

Would you like to make some string? All you need are some old bed sheets, a lot of patience, and some friends to help you along the way.

The first step is to cut your sheets in to strips about 5cm wide and about half a meter long. Then, follow this little video and we will make some string together!

We’ve just launched a new BRAG project – “Transplanting Disobedience”.
This project examines art and environmental activism in Bunbury and the South West, and explores the ways in which the arts can provide a voice for change.
Our next meet up is on Wednesday, 5pm at BRAG. All are welcome, so come along if you would like to find out more about the project and make some more string with us!
